DON QUIXOTE - Gordon Lightfoot From the album Don Quixote, on
Warner/Reprise record and CD(!)

(c) 1972,Moose Music, LTD Mistakes (c), me! :-)

Notes:
[-----]
Although several songbooks have written this song out in the key of C,
Lightfoot ALWAYS uses a capo. For this song, the capo is used on the second fret and the chords are
"normally". They sound a whole step higher. Is this confusing? Just put a capo on the 2nd fret, pop on
record or CD, and play along!!! You'll sound fine and in tune!!!

Listen how the song pulses on the A string rhythmically -- feel that galloping horse.

The chorus changes from the E/A, D/A, A pattern the second time round, to the "normal" E, A, D chords.
should too, if you want to sound authentic.

Fingerpick the song using your thumb, index, and middle fingers. That's how The Man does it.

Have fun!!!

The Chords:

----------

The names may be a bit wrong since it's getting late, but the chord forms are correct. The numbers
with the recommended finger to use, starting with 1index, etc... Advanced players choose your own. :-) Look
for the "1"'s -- they get lost in the text easily../

He is wild but [D/A]he is [A]mellow, he is strong but [E/A]he is [A]weak

Till he can shout no [E]more[E7]

[A]I have come o'er [D/A]moor and [A]mountain like a hawk u[E/A]pon the [A]wing
I was once a [D/A]shining [A]knight who was the guardian [E/A]of a [A]king
I have searched the [D/A]whole world [A]over, looking for a [E/A]place to [A]sleep
I have seen the [D/A]strong sur[A]vive and I have seen the [E/A]lean grow [A]weak

Then [E]striking up a knightly pose he [D]shouts across the ocean to the [A]shore

[A]See the jailer [D/A]with his key who [A]locks away all [E/A]trace of [A]sin
See the judge u[D/A]pon the [A]bench who tries the case as [E/A]best he [A]can
See the wise and [D/A]wicked [A]ones who feed upon life's [E/A]sacred [A]fire
See the soldier [D/A]with his [A]gun who must be dead to [E/A]be ad[A]mired

See the drunkard [D/A]in the [A]tavern stemming gold to [E/A]make ends [A]meet
See the youth in [D/A]ghetto [A]black condemned to life u[E/A]pon the s[A]treet[A][E7/A][A]

[E]Reaching for his saddlebags he [D]takes a tarnished cross into his [A]hand
[E]Then standing like a preacher now he [D]shouts across the ocean to the [A]shore
