----------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the title song to Rosanne Cash's brilliant latest album.
I'm not entirely sure what the intro riff is, but I think that
it's something along the lines of:

[Dsus2] [A]

E-----------5-----|-----------5---|-----------5---|-----------5---|
B-------5-------5-|-------5-------|-------5-------|-------5-------|
G---7-------------|---7-----------|---6-----------|---6-----------|
D-7---7---7---7---|-7---7---7---7-|-7---7---7---7-|-7---7---7---7-|
A-----------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
E-----------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|

but I'm not sure. Steuart Smith is very close to being God, and so
I can't tell with a high level of certainty. Plus, the way I've
tabbed it out, the riff is a bitch to play, but then, I'm not very
good. Any corrections are totally welcome. Anyway, this may not
matter that much if, like me, the key of D is just way to high for
you to sing. I've transposed it to A, capoed up at the 2nd fret.
I'll put my chords at the end. I also don't know the solo, but it
shouldn't be too hard to either figure it out yourself or just
fake it. That's what I do.

[D]How long was [A]I alseep?
[D]When did we [A]plan to meet?
[D]Have you been [A]waiting long for [Bm]me?
[D]When did the [A]sky turn black?
[D]Do you still [A]want me back?
[D]I'll pick it [A]all up piece by [Bm]piece.

(I'm not sure - this next chord could be Em, but G is used for
ever other chorus, so I'm putting it here)
And the [G]wheel goes [A]round and [D]round.
And the [G]flame in our [A]souls will [Bm]never burn out.
And the [G]wheel, and the [A]wheel goes [D]round.

[D]I am a [A]river with a voice.
[D]I came in[A]to your life by choice.
[D]And none can [A]judge just how that [Bm]feels.
[D]You are a [A]messenger from God.
[D]You are the [A]angel I forgot.
[D]And who's to [A]say that it isn't [Bm]real?

And the [G]wheel goes [A]round and [D]round.
And the [G]flame in our [A]souls will [Bm]never burn out.
And the [G]wheel, and the [A]wheel goes [D]round.

[F#m]I'm not looking for the [G]answers.
[F#m]Oh, darling don't you [G]see
[F#m]That just to know the [E]question
[G]Is good enough for [A]me.

(solo which is based on a rising D scale, that much I know)

[D]Take up the [A]hearts you came to heal.
[D]Put down your [A]dagger and your shield.
[D]You need fear [A]nothing now from [Bm]me.
[D]I see the [A]essence of the man.
[D]I stand be[A]fore you as a friend.
[D]The truth moves [A]through us even when we [Bm]sleep.

And the [G]wheel goes [A]round and [D]round.
And the [G]flame in our [A]souls will [Bm]never burn out.
And the [G]wheel, and the [A]wheel goes [G]round.[A]

(alternate between G and A a few times then back to D with riff)

Still with me? Good. If you'd like the handy-dandy Marc Hirsh
transposition into the key of A, follow along. Capo at the 2nd
fret. Then, change the following chords:

Chord in original key Chord FORM capoed at 2

--------------------- ----------------------

[D] [G]
[A] [D]
[Bm] [Em]
[G] [C]
[F#m] [Bm]
[E] [A]
That should do it. With a text editor, you should be able to
change the chords in the main body of this file yourself. Not only
does it make it easier on us baritone-types, but it also
eliminates that pesky F#m chord, which can be a pain if your
fingers aren't in the mood to barre chords. If you get some use
out of this song, let me know, so I can be sure that I'm not just
posting to see my own name on the .net.
