[Am7]I recall the day I [Cmaj7]came to stay in my beloved[Em] Ehime.

There wasn't much I could say to express my confusion
At least in [Em]Japanese anyway.
[Am7]I was struck by the s[Cmaj7]mell of the staff-room and the [Em]dog-like procedur[D]e involved
when I w[Am7]ent to the bathroom. It[Cmaj7] was a struggle back[Em] then.
But [G]now... [D]I've learned to use[C] the toilet,
And now[G] after failing niikyu I[D] can speak nihongo, or [C]whatever they call it.
Now I c[G]an ask a girl f[D]or her phone n[C]umber
And after 12 [G]long months I'm pretty blo[D]ody good at ikebana. [C]

[Am7]When I arrived in my t[Cmaj7]own, they said there's a su[Em]per(market) down the road,[D]
And it's not too far[Am7]. It took two hours by train[Cmaj7] and another hour by [Em]car.
[Am7]I made a nice group of fri[Cmaj7]ends in my town,
They were a ve[Em]ry friendly bunch,
[D]But they didn't get le[Am7]t out of the ol[Cmaj7]d peoples home, that much[Em].
[G]But now... I[D]'ve made friends my [C]own age,
And now[G] I can read a menu,[D] well at least the first [C]page.
[G]And now I understand that pe[D]ople don't mean to be dicks[C],
When they say wi[G]th a patronizing smile, that[D] I'm good with chopsticks. [C]
[Am7]I have grown to love the love pr[Cmaj7]incess,
I just wish I h[Em]ad a little more su[D]ccess with the opposi[Am7]te sex,
or if I w[Cmaj7]as gay then with the same se[Em]x. (Repeat Twice)
